Beginning Your Smart Home (Smart Homes for Seniors Ep 6)

Are you confused over the terms smart home, home automation, smart assistants, voice assistants, Alexa, Google Home or any of todays tech lingo? Today we will help you answer one of the big questions that is “(What When Where) How do I begin with my smart home?” How do I begin? What is needed?

Those are valid questions and this is my answer.

First you need to have a highway for information to use in your home. That is WiFi with an internet connection. It doesn’t really make a big difference who the vendor is as long as it is stable. Different areas of the United States have different providers. Some areas have cellular internet with WiFi so you have an all in one solution.

The next step is to choose your smart home platform. Amazon Alexa or Google Home are the most popular. You can’t make a bad decision, just choose. I went with Amazon Alexa because I have an Amazon account and streaming music comes with the subscripion.

Now that you have chosen your foundation, connect it to your WiFi and play with it until you comfortable with what it is, what it does and how to use it. I mean actually use it for a few months. After that you can start to grow your smart home.
